Organic (fresh water) broken cell wall green algae functions like a sponge that soaks up fungal toxins associated with stomatitis.
What is the purpose of the chlorella in this formulation?
Why does TEEF turn my cat’s water slightly yellow?
The vitamin B6 in Protektin30™ turns yellow when it is exposed to water, which accounts for the slight color change. Don’t worry - it’s still safe and effective.
Can I make a large batch ahead of time?
Yes! We recommend filling a pitcher or bottle with water and Protektin30™, and then store it in the refrigerator to replenish throughout the day as needed. For half of a gallon of water, use 1 scoop of Protektin30™. For a full gallon of water, use 2 scoops of Protektin30™.
My cat has kidney disease. Is Protektin30™ safe for my cat?
This product is safe for pets with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Sodium bicarbonate, an ingredient in this product, is commonly used to slow the progression of chronic kidney disease.
My cat has cardiovascular disease. Is Protektin30™ safe for my cat?
Cats with cardiovascular disease are generally advised to reduce the amount of sodium in the diet. This product contains a very small amount of sodium, which is negligible for a cat with cardiovascular disease. A scoop (1 daily serving) of Protektin30™ contains about 3 mg of sodium.
The recommended limit of sodium for a 6.6 lb cat is 96 mg of sodium per day. Protektin30™ only provides 3 mg, or 3% of the total. In short, the amount of sodium in Protektin30™ is insignificant compared to the overall sodium needs of a cat with cardiovascular disease.
Can I use this product with a water filter?
This product is not to be used with a water filter. A water filter will remove the Protektin30™ additive from the water, so pets drinking from the bowl will never get any Protektin30™. It is perfectly fine to mix Protektin30™ into filtered water.
My cat shares a water bowl with a dog. Is this product safe for dogs?
Yes, this product is safe for dogs. However, in households with both cats and dogs, we recommend Protektin42™ rather than Protektin30™ (as dogs can sometimes detect the chlorella in Protektin30™).
How long is it effective once I’ve mixed it with water?
Once the powder has been mixed with water, plan to use it within 2-3 days. Protektin30™ doesn’t contain any preservatives, so it doesn’t keep for long periods of time.
Are there any potential side effects?
Protektin30™ contains a very small amount of soluble fiber, which in rare cases can cause soft or loose stools. If this occurs with your cat, temporarily reduce the Protektin30™ dose by half until their stools return to normal.
Is this product to be used in addition to brushing, or instead of brushing?
Protektin30™ is most effective when it is used in addition to brushing and regular dental care by a veterinarian.
