This was far more helpful in gaining control of my dogs symptoms than anything. The emergency vet could offer. We were behind the eight ball with my beloved service dog who passed and were unable to get a hold of his problems, but I promised him I would do it differently, if given the opportunity. Well, I’ve had the opportunity With this new dog And it’s working. I am very grateful.

Gut Health Test - Very Helpful

This test helps me proactively respond to harmful bacteria (E. coli) beginning to overgrow before GI-related symptoms occur.
Thank you AnimalBiome!!

Our Remarkable Journey!

While a human Mom, I love this dog as much as one of my kids! He is our 7th Irish Setter over many years and was rescued out of a puppy mill with many issues/behaviors atypical for an IS. Part of the influencing issues beyond a likely nervous gut condition was being diagnosed with Heart Worm. The therapy we chose commenced with a month of doxycycline and then moving on to a year of topical meds. He has lived on a leash 24/7 through most of that year to remain quiet...a necessary element. His gut issues plus his already flagrant social/environmental anxieties created a dog unlike any previous Irish I had worked with.

I was encouraged to consider AnimalBiome and commenced with the test. I shall fast forward and say that it could not have made a greater, more dramatic difference in the life of this boy! I'll be eternally grateful to the process, the people of AnimalBiome, as well as the science. Not only has it restored balance to his gut, it has seemingly contributed to positively altering most of his negative and challenging social behaviors.

We are now engaged with and excelling in the sport of canine scent work. He loves his "job of searching"!
Thank you AnimalBiome, I sing your praises to any and all who will listen!

Recommended by my Internal Medicine Vet.. but to tell you the truth...I was a bit skeptical

Ordered this on the recommendation the internal medicine Vet I found, after several very expensive trips to the ER with the regular ER vet and no clear diagnosis ...my doggo had some stomach acid issues that were causing ulcers in his throat, itchy skin and licking episodes. I purchased the test.. followed the recommendations of the results, which consisted of 30 days of a gut biome restore... at first I didn't think it was working but after about 2 1/2 weeks my dogs symptoms subsided and now we are just on a chew for skin and coat. I am so happy I purchased the test.. My doggo is so much happier.. the results were fantastic!

Frequently Asked Questions

What if my sample includes dirt or other contaminants?

It is okay if you are not able to collect a sample that is completely free of dirt or other environmental particles, but cleaner samples can be processed more quickly. Just try your best!

What harmful bacteria (pathogens) does the Gut Health Test detect?

The DoggyBiome Gut Health Test report will measure the relative abundance of each of these types of harmful bacteria found in your dog’s sample:

  • Clostridium perfringens
  • Escherichia coli
  • Campylobacter upsaliensis
  • Clostridioides difficile
  • Salmonella enterica
  • Staphylococcus aureus
  • Listeria monocytogenes
  • Staphylococcus intermedius
  • Campylobacter jejuni
  • Clostridium piliforme

What beneficial bacteria does the Gut Health Test screen for and what makes them ‘beneficial’?

The DoggyBiome Gut Health Test can detect:

  • Clostridium hiranonis (Peptacetobacter hiranonis)
  • Turicibacter sanguinis
  • Faecalibacterium spp.
  • Blautia spp.
  • Fusobacterium spp.
  • Subdoligranulum spp.
  • Megasphaera spp.
  • Bifidobacterium spp.
  • Bacteroides spp.

Scientific research has identified these types of bacteria as beneficial for both gut health and host health in dogs. All gut bacteria fulfill different roles; beneficial ones can help with reducing inflammation, producing important molecules, improving immune system function, aiding in digestion and metabolism, and other important aspects of host health.

Will this test show me if my pet has a parasitic infection?

The Gut Health Test looks specifically at the bacterial microbiome, which does not include parasites like Giardia, hookworms, or roundworms.

Will this test tell me what foods my dog is allergic to?

The Gut Health Test looks at the bacteria present in the microbiome, which will not provide information on food allergies or intolerances.

What is fecal microbiome testing and what are the benefits?

Fecal microbiome testing is the process of sequencing bacterial DNA material from a small fecal sample. We can detect and identify the bacteria from your dog’s stool sample and then provide you with a comprehensive report.

Testing a dog’s microbiome provides insights into their health. Then imbalances in specific gut bacteria can be addressed to help alleviate such symptoms as diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, and itchy skin that may be associated with some chronic health conditions.

Will my sample be safe in the mail?

Yes, your sample is safe. The sample tubes contain a special liquid that keeps the bacteria perfectly preserved for analysis, across a very wide range of temperatures. Once inside the tube, the sample is safe for several months.

How long does it take to get my dog’s test results?

Reports are typically sent within two weeks from when the samples arrive at our laboratory.
