Direction for Use

Give capsules whole, by mouth, for at least 30 days. Do not open or crush capsules.

If your dog is particularly sensitive to new supplements, we recommend starting by giving just 1 capsule and waiting 3-4 days before giving the next one. Then, you can gradually move towards more frequent dosing.

If your dog is currently stable, give 1 capsule daily for the first 3 days, then progress to more frequent dosing according to this dosing chart.

As with all supplements, consult with your veterinarian before use, especially if your pet has a health condition.

Storage Instructions: Store in a cool, dry place.

Fixed my dogs GI issues

I have used this twice to heal my dogs gut from a variety of calamities including giardia and after about 2 weeks his appetite is back and he has beautiful poops. Love this stuff more than anything.

Wonderful Game Changer for us!

Was struggling with diarrhea in our 13 year old border collie and a vicious circle of antibiotics. Tried some probiotics with no success. We then took our dog to an internist, who recommended Doggy Biome Gut Restore, and for our dog's issues, put her on it daily. She is 14 and 1/2 now, and for us, this has been a wonderful answer to an awful problem.

Success!

We have a Belgian Malinois mix, she is 10 years old. She is loving, smart, but extremely anxious. This has led to IBD (Irritable Bowl Disease). We talked to our vet and they recommended an FMT (Fecal Microbiota Transplant) operation. There is only one place near us that does this, Texas A&M. We spoke to their small animal clinic and they quoted us $1,250 to $10,000+. She would be with them 3 days, and we would only be able to visit between 10 AM to 5 PM. This would have increased her anxiety. After several discussions with them we realized the higher end of the quote was what we would have paid. We were desperate to help her. Her stool was nothing but liquid, and we were willing to try anything. We researched and found Gut Restore with Animal Biome. The medicine specifically that it had FMT in it. We ordered the medication and followed the directions. Our girl's stool has stabilized and she is now solid again. We also ordered a doggie chew from My Simple Pet Lab with Psyllium Musk in it. This has helped too. I would recommend both to anyone trying to help their dogs bowel issues.

You saved my dog

My German shepherd dog started several protocols of oral pain medication including Prednisone which caused an adverse GI reaction ie severe diarrhea. The only thing that helped was Meto carbinol. That further wrecked his gut. He was put on special diet, doggy biome gut Restore and subsequently gut maintenance and he is in control. Thank you

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a fecal microbiota transplant (FMT)?

A fecal microbiota transplant (FMT), also called fecal transplant, is the transfer of stool from a healthy donor to the GI tract of a sick recipient. The stool from the donor contains a diverse, well-functioning community of bacteria that take up residence in the recipient’s gut. FMT is the best known approach for restoring a balanced gut microbiome and has proven to be an effective treatment in both humans and companion animals.

FMT has been used for hundreds of years in veterinary medicine and for over a thousand years in human medicine. Though modern regulatory entities like the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are still determining how to classify it, FMT continues to demonstrate beneficial results for a growing list of human health conditions. For example, FMT is routinely used to treat Clostridioides difficile (C. diff) infections. And it provides a promising solution for the low gut bacterial diversity associated with Crohn’s disease (a form of IBD).

What are Gut Restore/FMT capsules (poop pills)?

An FMT can be delivered via colonoscopy or enema, but for cats and dogs, those procedures generally require sedation. Our Gut Restore Supplement is an oral FMT capsule that gives your dog the benefits of FMT without the need for surgery or sedation. Containing a proprietary mixture of carefully screened, cryoprotected, freeze-dried donor stool, the Gut Restore capsules (aka “poop pills”) offer a noninvasive, affordable, at-home alternative for pets suffering from digestive, skin, or immune system issues.

How can the Gut Restore Supplement improve my dog’s health?

By seeding your dog’s microbiome with all the right bacteria in the right proportions, the capsules can help reestablish balance and resolve symptoms. While it varies depending on underlying health conditions, positive results—such as better formed stool, improved appetite, and less itching – can be seen in as little as 24 hours.

When dogs with digestive symptoms, skin issues, or immune system problems turn out to be missing certain important gut bacteria, we need to add those missing members to the microbiome and help the new populations grow and thrive.

The Gut Restore Supplement provides a whole community of healthy dog-specific microbes. The capsule’s enteric coating prevents it from dissolving until it reaches the intestines, where the contents “seed” your dog’s gut with a diverse array of healthy bacteria, restoring any missing groups.

Where do you get the material for Gut Restore Supplements?

Our Gut Restore Supplements for dogs are derived from stool donated by healthy pet dogs that live in homes and have been carefully screened for health, age, fecal consistency, behavior, and microbiome composition (based on DNA sequencing).

Donor stool samples are submitted for parasites and pathogen screening to the IDEXX Reference Laboratories, the leading veterinary diagnostics company, which has stringent quality control guidelines and well-validated standard operating procedures.

All dog donor material is regularly screened for parasites and pathogens:

Dogs are screened for the following pathogens via PCR: Clostridium perfringens CPnetEF toxin gene, Clostridium perfringens Enterotoxin Gene, Campylobacter coli, Campylobacter jejuni, canine distemper virus, canine enteric coronavirus, canine parvovirus 2, canine circovirus, Clostridium difficile toxin A, Clostridium difficile toxin B, Cryptosporidium spp., Giardia spp., Salmonella spp.

Dogs are screened for the following parasites via ELISA: Hookworms, Roundworms, and Whipworms

Dogs are screened for ova and parasites using fecal floatation.

Is the supplement right for my dog?

Dogs of all ages, breeds, health conditions, and with a wide range of symptoms have benefited from the Gut Restore Supplement. The vast majority of dogs see improvement in their digestive issues, food allergies and intolerances, and/or skin issues within one to two months, but sometimes longer.

While this supplement is natural and intended to gently repopulate the microbiome, it does contain high numbers of healthy bacteria that can be overwhelming to medically unstable dogs. If your dog is severely underweight or requires frequent hospitalization, we recommend checking with your veterinarian to see if the Gut Restore Supplement is right for your dog.

Will this supplement help my dog?

About 80% of dogs that take the Gut Restore Supplement see a significant improvement in their symptoms. However, every dog is different, and the Gut Restore Supplement is not effective for every dog. And in some cases, it can take up to two months to start seeing an improvement.

Can I open or crush the capsules to mix the powder in with food?

We strongly recommend giving the capsules whole, because the outer capsule has an acid-resistant coating that protects the bacteria during their journey through the stomach.

Can I continue my dog’s other medications or supplements?

All medications and supplements can be continued, with one major exception: bacterial probiotics (e.g., Lactobacillus, Enterococcus). These should be discontinued when possible, as these non-native bacteria compete with the dog-specific bacteria in the Gut Restore Supplement. If your veterinarian has prescribed probiotics for your pet, check with them first before discontinuing probiotics. As an alternative, the yeast-based probiotic, S. boulardii, can be used because it supports dog-specific bacteria in the Gut Restore Supplement.
