  • Return mailer

Direction for Use

Use kit within 1 year from the date of purchase.

Wearing the provided gloves, you’ll be swabbing your dog’s gum lines. This takes 1-2 minutes. You’ll place the swab in a tube that is filled with a preservative solution, and mail it back to us in the provided return mailer. 

Your dog’s results will be ready in about 2 weeks from when we receive your sample at our laboratory. We will send you an email notification when the test results are ready, which you can access via our online Pet Portal.

While many groups of bacteria associated with Periodontal Disease were present in low amounts, one was elevated: Brevundimonas, a group which has been associated with more refractory cases of Periodontal Disease in humans In addition, two groups of bacteria considered pathobionts were elevated: Acinetobacter and Proteus, both of which are problematic groups. When is the best time to collect an oral sample from my dog?

The best time to collect a sample is first thing in the morning, before feeding your dog. Food particles can contaminate the sample and make the results less accurate.

Can I test my dog’s oral microbiome even if they are missing some (or all) of their teeth?

Yes, oral testing is still valuable even for dogs that are missing teeth. You’ll just be swabbing along the gum line.
