Kitty with cronic diarrhea

Our vet recommended KittyBiome Gut health Test for our cat, Simon. Simon struggled with cronic diarrhea and had lost 1 1/2 lbs. We sent his sample in and the results came back within a couple weeks. The test showed us exactly what he needed to help his gut. We purchased the products from AnimalBiome. His stools are finally solid and he is gaining weight!

Great Value

KittyBiome Gut Health Test pinpointed what was going on in my cat's tummy. He had occasional diarrhea that was getting worse with blood and mucus. The test showed that the bacteria responsible for digesting complex carbohydrates were elevated. I felt that he wasn't digesting carbohydrates very well, but he was getting diarrhea with foods containing vegetable oils, so I was confused and avoided foods with vegetable oils. However, he still seemed under the weather after every meal. After seeing the test results, I switched his food to meat-only cat foods. His diarrhea stopped immediately, and there was no more blood in his stool. He is back to himself and became very active again. I can't thank AnimalBiome enough because he had already been through antibiotics and prescription food, so I didn't want to take him back to the vet and risk going down the same spiral I did with my dog. He didn't need prescription food or antibiotics. He just needed foods that agreed with him.

Cured Kitten’s IBD

My Maine Coon kitten had diahrea for the 1st 6 months we had her. The Bet diagnosed her with IBD and put her on prescription food. I didn’t accept that and investigated cause. Learned about the Biome and found Kitty Biome. She has been cured using this product! So thankful.

Improving gut

Hi, So far, so good. Being a nutritionist for people, I tried everything else you could imagine b4 this. I started the regimen about 3.5 weeks ago. The diarrhea has greatly improved. It's not 100% there all the way yet, but his stool is definitely firmer. No throwing up lately. His appetite is great. You can do all kinds of things and try modality after modality, but if the friendly bacteria is off or out of balance, nothing will really help. I'll post again as time goes on. Thank you!!!

Gave me peace of mind

I have three cats that have always had hairball and vomiting issues. One in particular, Basel, was really bad and after hundreds of dollars in tests and an ultrasound the vet told me that Basel PROBABLY had IBS and pancreatitis and recommended a hydrolyzed diet made by the same company of pet food that I had already been using followed by steroids. I've been through similar situations with my previous cats and knew that this course of action has never solved anything for my babies other than just temporarily relieving symptoms or masking them. Instead, I completely changed my cat's diet from my vet's recommended popular brand of kibble and wet food and moved to Smalls frozen/fresh food delivery service and some pro and prebiotic cat treats. The cats have been on this new diet for three weeks before I tried the KittyBiome test. In that 3 weeks, Basel had quit throwing up and had no hairballs. He was actually passing them in his stool like he should. The KittyBiome test came back that he has great gut health other than having a small increase of bacteria that lend themselves toward obesity. I feel so much better about Basel's health and am interested in doing the Biome test for my other cats. Yzma is FINALLY losing weight and running again after years of feeding her the recommended amount of vet-approved mainstream brand cat food. She has also quit vomiting and I suspect that her test results will be similar to Basel's. While Basel's test results were positive, I don't feel like I wasted any money at all. I feel so much better about the choices I made concerning my cats' health and know that moving forward whatever issues my cat has aren't due to an unknown gut bacteria imbalance. Plus, I actually got to see the results which is something that has never happened at the vet.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if my cat’s sample contains litter?

It is okay if you are not able to collect a sample that is completely free of litter particles, but cleaner samples can be processed more quickly. Just try your best!

What harmful bacteria (pathogens) does the Gut Health Test detect?

The KittyBiome Gut Health Test report will measure the relative abundance of each of these types of harmful bacteria found in your cat’s sample:

  • Clostridium perfringens
  • Escherichia coli
  • Campylobacter upsaliensis
  • Clostridioides difficile
  • Salmonella enterica
  • Staphylococcus aureus
  • Listeria monocytogenes
  • Staphylococcus intermedius
  • Campylobacter jejuni
  • Clostridium piliforme

What beneficial bacteria does the Gut Health Test screen for and what makes them ‘beneficial’?

The KittyBiome Gut Health Test can detect:

  • Clostridium hiranonis (Peptacetobacter hiranonis)
  • Turicibacter sanguinis
  • Faecalibacterium spp.
  • Blautia spp.
  • Fusobacterium spp.
  • Subdoligranulum spp.
  • Megasphaera spp
  • Bifidobacterium spp.
  • Bacteroides spp.

Scientific research has identified these types of bacteria as beneficial for both gut health and host health in cats. All gut bacteria fulfill different roles; beneficial ones can help with reducing inflammation, producing important molecules, improving immune system function, aiding in digestion and metabolism, and other important aspects of host health.

Will this test show me if my pet has a parasitic infection?

The Gut Health Test looks specifically at the bacterial microbiome, which does not include parasites like Giardia, hookworms, or roundworms.

Will this test tell me what foods my cat is allergic to?

The Gut Health Test looks at the bacteria present in the microbiome, which will not provide information on food allergies or intolerances.

What is fecal microbiome testing, and what are the benefits?

Fecal microbiome testing is the process of sequencing bacterial DNA material from a small fecal sample. We can detect all known bacteria from your cat’s stool sample and then provide you with a comprehensive report.

Testing a cat’s microbiome provides insights into their health. Then imbalances in specific gut bacteria can be addressed to help alleviate such symptoms as diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, and itchy skin that may be associated with some chronic health conditions.

Will my sample be safe in the mail?

Yes, your sample is safe. The sample tubes contain a special liquid that keeps the bacteria perfectly preserved for analysis, across a very wide range of temperatures. Once inside the tube, the sample is safe for several months.

How long does it take to get my dog’s test results?

Reports are typically available within two weeks from when the sample arrives at our laboratory.
